Fourth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule
Madisonville, January, 2017 - EPA has published the fourth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 4) in the Federal Register on December 20, 2016. McCoy & McCoy Laboratories, Inc. has submitted the application to begin the process to become an approved laboratory for UCMR 4. MMLI has been a leader in the drinking water monitoring program since the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act was enacted.
UCMR 4 requires monitoring for 30 chemical contaminants between 2018 and 2020 using analytical methods developed by EPA and consensus organizations. This monitoring provides a basis for future regulatory actions to protect public health.
PWSs will monitor for 10 cyanotoxins during 4-consecutive months within the two year testing period. PWSs will also monitor for 20 additional contaminants for 12-months during the same timeframe. EPA will pay for all analytical costs associated with this monitoring for small PWSs with a population between 25 and 10,000. These small systems will be randomly selected. ALL PWSs above 10,000 will be mandated to perform the testing.
